Soccer Moms Snag all Nintendo Wiis

Soccer Moms are snagging all the Wiis...

Well, the first reports from the field are in and all is not good for aspiring Nintendo Wii owners.  A lot of hopes and dreams of acquiring the much sought after Nintendo Wii on Sunday, January 21st were crushed as reports of huge lines and subsequent out of stock signs were unfortunately back up.

This frustration spilled over Sunday afternoon - Monday (post-Christmas Cyber Monday) to online retailers as customers broke down and purchased all available bundles on line.  As of this writing, Walmart, Target, and even EBgames/Gamestop have sold out of their bundle offerings.  These bundles were readily available before the recent weekend Wii availability weekend ad push by the large video game retailers (BestBuy, Circuit City, Target, etc...)

On the opposite side of the fence sits the newly released Sony Playstation 3, which is generally available without bundle both in store and on-line.  Analysts had predicted that the exact opposite situation would occur.

The Xbox 360 had a similar post-holiday demand surge as the Nintendo Wii, which lasted well into the summer months.

Nintendo certainly has a hit on their hands, as both the hardcore gamer community and the soccer moms battle for the next shipment of Wiis...

How did you get your Nintendo Wii?

I waited in line for 15 hours on launch day.  I knew that this would be a big hit.  Knowing this you have to expect to give up your time to get a Wii.  I had a lot of fun waiting in line for it and when I finally got it I've had tons of fun with it.

eBay. My parents game me a cheque for the amount of the Wii (since they couldn't find one) and I chipped in the extra $150 to get it for $400.

Worth every penny.

It was easy to get.  I simply reserved one through Toys R Us two months in advance.

My Wii is not actually mine.  It's my sons, but we play it all the time.  My wife sat in line for 17 hours at Walmart the night before the release back in November.  All the guys at Gamestop and ToyRUs told us that there, "would be PLENTY of Wiis available", to anyone who wants one.  They almost seemed to be looking at us in disgust as they said it.   As if it was repugnant to them that we wanted a Wii.  Well, times have changed.  Since then I have learned a few things.  Number one!  Do NOT listen to the temporarily hired holiday help.  They don't know anymore than you do,  (probably less) about how popular any given toy will be for the holidays.  Second, always listen to my wife, who was the one that told me that she had better get in line, because she had a feeling these "Wii things" are going to be hard to get.  I guess that makes my sons Wii one of the Soccer mom purchases.  Sorry guys.

I am a Best Buy employee. and I camped out two nights before on release day. i was third in line and i got to be on TV. it was funny b/c all my co-workers were like WTF cuz i was on TV in the break room (the Hub).

We've been sold out of Wiis since then. We got 36 of them Jan 21 but we got about 70 ppl in line... 34 of them weren't happy... and fights broke out. it was kinda funny. lol sorry.

that being said... we have about 30 PS3s in stock since like 3 weeks ago... and we still cant get rid of them. we sell about one per day.

I personally just bought an Xbox 360. I preferred it over the PS3 because of its features w/ Media Center, Gears of War, Need for Speed Carbon, Oblivion, Halo I II (III).

:) Talk to yall later

I got on the first bus downtown and walked into the store, and at last i had my precious :D Opened the box with hands shaking, my expectations were fullfilled and then some! I love my Wii
