  • iPhone Civilization Revolution Free Today

As is per usual with GamerDeals, we let you know about great gaming deals as soon as we hear about them. And, what's a better deal than free? Not sure how long it will last but you will want to run (by which I mean: run!) to your nearest iOS device to download Civilization Revolution in the App Store.

I made sure to download the regularly-priced-at-$5 title with the quickness since I've been hearing it's quite good for some time. It's basically the DS version with a few minor nip, tucks, and tweaks here and there. The original price point is kind of scary, which is why it's the perfect time to "buy" it now!

  • Angry Birds Launches Off iPhone, Goes to PS3 and Portables

In a move that will surely make HawtWired's own Patrick Wright happy, Angry Birds is jumping off Apple's App Store waters and launching on the DS, PSP, and PS3 some time in the near future.

Other than the announcement of it coming, there are no other details involving the title. It's likely if they go full retail with it the developer would add new levels, mechanics and multiplayer aspects to the original game. Don't set your expectations too high, though...the game may just be a quick port to the respective systems' downloadable shops.

Apparent from our recent chats on the GamerDeals Podcast, I'm sure Patrick would buy it three times over regardless of any updates or changes.
  • Wii Technology Used In Pain Relief Implant

In a story picked up from BBC News, doctors at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital have taken the same motion sensing technology we waste on stomping turtles and adapted it to a pain-relieving neurostimulator implant, severely improving the lifestyle of at least one patient.

Neurostimulators are implants that send off a level of electrical impulse directly to the spinal cord, muddling pain sensors in patients that are either recovering from severe trauma or, as in the case of our above patient, Robert Mason, suffer irreversible trauma everyday of their lives.  They work as a signal jammer--the brain is unable to get the proper signal from the pain sensors in the body because the implant creates, for lack of a better term, sensory 'static', reducing crippling pain to a mild tingling sensation.

To date, the biggest drawbacks of neurostimulators has been a measured dosage of electrical impulse.  As anyone whose every pulled a muscle can attest, different postures and body positions can increase or decrease the level of pain suffered, depending on the injury, and the neurostimulator previously was unable to gauge when a person needed less or more relief.

Using the increasingly-more-common-everyday motion sensing and accelerator technology we find in our Wii's and iPhones, the neurostimulator can be programmed to react to different body positionings by giving variable levels of impulse relief.

Mason's take on the results, from the BBC article:

"My pain has been a constant eight out of 10, like the worst toothache you can imagine. I get about two hours sleep a night at best, and then only in short bursts."

But the father-of-three, who is the first patient in the UK to have a neurostimulator with an in-built motion sensor, said he was delighted with the results.

"It's brilliant. Now I can have the kids sitting on my lap, whereas before I was wriggling in pain. I feel like a proper parent again. I am looking forward to getting four hours straight sleep at night and hoping to get back to work."

Mr Mason still feels pain, but said the neurostimulator had reduced it from an eight out of 10 to four.

Doctors both at Guy's and St. Thomas' and from the British Pain Society are tremendously pleased with the technologies results, and speculate that it could help better the lives of thousands of suffers of back and leg pain each year.

  • Secret of Mana on iPhone!

A teaser trailer for legendary Super NES RPG Secret of Mana recently cropped up on Square-Enix's YouTube page.  Sure, I'll give you the link, but the above picture has all the more info you're going to get out of the 0:38 second video.  (Okay that's a lie--the Mana Beast growl over the Square-Enix logo made me giggle a bit.)  No details as of yet, but we'll definitely make sure you're in the loop as soon as we are.

And why am I the one bringing this up?  Chris and Carlos are the phone geeks.  Oh, yeah, because I'm the retro geek and RPG geek.  I forgot.

  • Sonic Caught Up, 4th Adventure Delayed to Holiday 2010

In a surprising turn of events, SEGA actually decided to push back one of their premiere titles and instead of rushing it out the door will delay and polish a bit more. Sonic 4, Episode 1 has been pushed back from its previous "Summer 2010" release to "Fall 2010" to implement fan suggestions and time enough to create an iPhone and iPad version, as well.

"The additional time will allow the development team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands," the release reads via 1up, "and ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel."

Now, I was hoping that I'd be playing a new 2D Sonic to coincide with Xbox Live's excellent "Summer of Arcade" program that features worthy downloadable titles (i.e. Braid, Shadow Complex). But all is well, that just means Microsoft will need to dig up another triple-A title to fill Sonic's shoes this year. Shadow Complex 2, maybe? No, as a matter of fact, I don't think it's too soon!
  • Tekken Heading to iPhone Next

What is the world coming to? First, Street Fighter IV is officially announced for touch portables then Namco decides to throw in their hat into the ring with Tekken now rumored to take the iPhone plunge, according to PocketGamer.

Patrick and I just got the news right before we taped tomorrow's GDP (GamerDeals Podcast) and were not completely convinced of a fighter with no physical inputs.

What do you guys think? Down to touch-fight at work during breaks?
