About Portal 2:
Like the original game, Portal 2 is a first-person Platform-Puzzle game. In the single player campaign players assume the role of Chell, a former test subject trying to gain her freedom from the Aperture Science facility and GLaDOS, the AI controller of the facility. Set in the test chambers of the facility your goal is to make your way through the game levels using your portal gun (the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device). The portal gun creates temporary passages through solid surfaces, allowing for creative platforming and multiple possible means of clearing a level. The game also requires the player to solve puzzles at times to clear sections of levels. In addition to point-to-point movement through portals, players can also utilize other means of movement of themselves and various objects. These include: using the momentum of portal movement to make jumps to open positions like ledges; tractor beams; and special propulsion/repulsion gels that can be carried or stored.

So the 3DS is out, it's in stores, and the early adopters have them in their hot little hands. And, in typical early adopter fashion, they're already tired of them and looking forward to the next thing. That would be the PSP2, assuming no one pulls a disastrous Saturn-style ploy at E3 this year. Details on the PSP2 are still a bit vague, only because Sony refuses to confirm most of the things we already know from what people who have touched it have told us, but one thing that hit the wires a while back was that Sony was planning to use a new proprietary media system.
For those of you who have been paying attention the past few decades of home and personal electronics, you may have noticed that Sony likes proprietary media systems. Likes them a lot. But why?
Money, is the simple answer. To one degree another, anyone who wants to use or manufacture a media format engineered by another company has to pay a licensing royalty. If you've ever heard any of the tales of Nintendo's NES days, you probably know they made a killing on manufacturing and basically selling the NES cartridge to third-party licensees like Capcom and Konami. Sony's a smart company, and has learned that making electronics that run on proprietary systems not only keeps you from paying licensing royalties to other companies, but if your media format takes off in a way that others want to use it, they have to pay for the privilege. Only in the direst of circumstances would Sony switch to a competitor's media (as they recently bit the bullet and adopted SD memory card format for their digital cameras).
So, for interested parties, what follows is a brief history of Sony's love affair with proprietary media. Some are wins, others are total failures. I tried to hit just the speaking points rather than nitpick incessantly on technical specs. Enjoy.

ZenStudios announced today that their next board, MARS, will be available April 20th, for all of you flipper jockies out there. And I’m going to use that announcement to address an issue that’s a long time in coming.
I was wrong about Pinball FX2, when I blasted it at PAX last year.
In case you missed it, I shot down Pinball FX2 when I demoed it at PAX last year, and almost immediately suffered backlash for it--it was the reason I went back and addended our PAX Preview items to explain that they are not complete reviews; to drive home the point that these were limited access demos I was working with.
Again, I was wrong.
Pinball FX2 is actually extremely well put together. The biggest difference for me between getting it home and demoing it at PAX was actually being able to hear the game. The sound design is apparently a huge difference maker, and adds the visceral feel to the game that was missing on PAX’s noisy demo floor. Also, having access to the bevy of boards that make up the Pinball FX2 universe adds a huge bonus (except Rocky & Bullwinkle--screw you, Rock & Bullwinkle), especially access to all the Pinball FX boards and new content like the Marvel Comics boards (still waiting on that Captain America one, though). And the ability to fine tune every aspect of the board like you could a real machine is simply mind-blowing.
The occasional tournaments are a nifty way to keep the audience coming back in a means other than simply offering DLC or new achievements (which they also do, for those of you who dig that sort of thing). And speaking of Achievements, hey! Achievements that require skill instead of just being awarded for passing checkpoints! You know, like Achievements were touted to be before the 360’s launch! How about that!
I don’t want to go into a full review here, because honestly I’m embarrassed about A) being proven so very wrong, and B) not correcting my error for so long. But they still deserve a grade from HAWTwires, so I’m giving ZenStudios and Pinball FX2 a
