  • Game Feast, XBLA's New Fall Program Announced

Just like "Block Party" last spring and the regular "Summer of Arcade" promotions Microsoft runs for a month's worth of spectacular XBLA Games, "Game Feast" will be this fall's campaign.

Gamers have grown accustomed to the incredible offerings of "Summer of Arcade" pasts with the likes of Braid, Shadow Complex, and Limbo having garnered great attention from the spotlight event. Only season left is Winter but, at least for now, we'll have the following games to look forward to come late September:

    * Hydrophophia -- Sept. 29
    * Comic Jumper -- Oct. 6
    * Pinball FX 2 -- Oct. 13
    * Super Meat Boy -- Oct. 20
  • Transforming D-Pad is the New Xbox 360 Controller's Biggest Feature

Microsoft has finally heard the cries of fighting and platforming game fans and has decided to do something about its console's "d-pad" abomination. Rumors were going around the interwebs yesterday about the new, redesigned Xbox 360 controller and today we have proof from Xbox's Community Manager, Major Nelson:

Of course, if you've grown accustomed to the "disc" version of the system's d-pad you can "transform," I'd say degrade, it back to its original form. The new controller will be out by the holidays this year and -- unfortunately -- will only be available in the Plug-and-Play variation for $64.99.

  • Nintendo Drops DSi Handheld Price as Sales Slump

    Nintendo DSi

After a remarkable run on the hardware charts, the Nintendo DSi is starting to slow in sales.  The new competition from the likes of Apple (iPhone/iPad), and other gaming cell phones are starting to encroach on Nintendo's near monopoly on the hand held gaming market.

With that being said, if sales start showing a slowing demand curve, a good old fashioned price drop typically gives it a good spike.  Yesterday, Nintendo announced a price drop on both the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL (super-sized version) to $149. and $169...

    Press Release:

NINTENDO DROPPING PRICES OF NINTENDO DSI AND NINTENDO DSI XL SYSTEMS ON SEPT. 12

Latest Versions of Best-Selling Portable Video Game System in History to be Priced at $149.99 and $169.99

Effective Sept. 12, the new suggested retail price of the Nintendo DSi system will be $149.99, while the new suggested retail price for the Nintendo DSi XL system will be $169.99. The Nintendo DS™ Lite model will remain at a suggested retail price of $129.99. The Nintendo DS family of video game systems is the best-selling in the history of the U.S. and worldwide. The new prices offer consumers tremendous value for their money while providing access to the best portable video game experiences possible.

"We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. • New Blu-Ray Movies Releases for the Week of Aug. 31, 2010!

The Evil Dead (Limited Edition) [Blu-ray]

Blu-ray Movie Release List for the Week of Aug. 24, 2010

The Evil Dead drops this week on Blu-ray.  In addition we have some additional treats in the form of Sons of Anarchy: Season Two, Harry Brown, The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season, House, M.D.: Season Six, plus a few more gems!

This week's recommended Blu-ray movie title is The Evil Dead...

In the fall of 1979, Sam Raimi and his merry band headed into the woods of rural Tennessee to make a movie. They emerged with a roller coaster of a film packed with shocks, gore, and wild humor, a film that remains a benchmark for the genre. Ash (cult favorite Bruce Campbell) and four friends arrive at a backwoods cabin for a vacation, where they find a tape recorder containing incantations from an ancient book of the dead. When they play the tape, evil forces are unleashed, and one by one the friends are possessed. Wouldn't you know it, the only way to kill a "deadite" is by total bodily dismemberment, and soon the blood starts to fly. Raimi injects tremendous energy into this simple plot, using the claustrophobic set, disorienting camera angles, and even the graininess of the film stock itself to create an atmosphere of dread, punctuated by a relentless series of jump-out-of-your-seat shocks. The Evil Dead lacks the more highly developed sense of the absurd that distinguish later entries in the series--Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness--but it is still much more than a gore movie. It marks the appearance of one of the most original and visually exciting directors of his generation, and it stands as a monument to the triumph of imagination over budget. --Simon Leake

  • Microsoft Readies New, Improved Xbox 360 Controller for Holiday 2010?

Joystiq is reporting on a rumor that might mean the end of the digital blob Microsoft has been calling a "d-pad" since the console's launch. It has been mostly problematic specifically for fighters but even platformers are a chore on the system.

The new controller, says Joystiq, will improve on the directional pad's design similar to what was done to a special Europe-only controller that was bundled with Pro Evo 2009. I'm sure everyone out there has plenty of controllers lying around, but are you guys willing to drop another $50 bones on a 360 pad that will finally let you throw Ryu's hadouken's with ease?
  • Xbox Live Goes Up $10, Microsoft Laughs All the Way to the Bank

Yes. The day has come when Microsoft realizes that it will take advantage of its superior online interface by charging its customers even more for Gold access on Xbox 360. As of November 1, Xbox Live goes up $10 for a yearly subscription that used to cost $50.

The Xbox 360's closest competitor was the PS3 with its free online multiplayer access for everyone but, unfortunately, that console's been taking its sweet time matching anything as close to the functionality of Xbox Live.

Of course, this will mostly affect those gamers who played full price for Xbox Live in the first place. Everyone else, make sure to continue stocking up on the regular $35-40 a year deals that pop up every now and then.
  • New Video Game Releases for the Week of August 30, 2010 (Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii / DS / PC / PSP)!

    Metroid: Other M

Video game release highlights include Metroid: Other M (Nintendo Wii), Battlefield Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition (PS3, Xbox 360), Valkaria Chronicles 2 (Sony PSP), Guilty Party (Nintendo Wii), plus a few more gems...

Our recommended new release of the week will go to Metroid: Other M...

Metroid: Other M is a single player shooter for Wii that takes the beloved Metroid franchise into uncharted and exciting new territory. Set between the events of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, the game features unprecedented access to the backstory, thoughts and in-game interactions of the usually closed off heroine of the series, Samus Aran. Developed jointly by Nintendo and the celebrated Japanese development studio, Team Ninja, the game also features exciting play options, including the ability to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives, pointer and sideways Wii Remote controller orientation, stunning in-game cinematics and a classic blend of Metroid action and puzzle-solving gameplay.

For decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games, and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus finally tells her own tale in this revealing, personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation.

  • Windows Phone 7=Quick Boot Up

The guys over at Pocketnow have posted a video comparing the boot times between the Nexus One, iPhone 4, HTC HD2 and the LG Panther. Amazingly the most definitely unfinished Panther beats it's closest competitor by quite a few seconds, which means a lot in the mobile space. Does this video make any of you lean any futher towards Microsofts new pocket OS?

  • Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - A Paragraph Review

Kane & Lynch 2's equivalent of the load screen is a "buffering" icon that we've become so accustomed to seeing in this post-YouTube world. Oh, yeah, it's a different kind of game. Clean, crisp, HD graphics are traded in for a muddy screen lathered in Crisco, obstructed by a grain filter, and pixelated censorship when you commit unspeakable crimes like, say, shoot a guy in the face. Style, the game has -- unfortunately, IO forgot to include an engaging story line or combat that is only slightly above average. It's like the developer had the great inspiration to create a game around the unique setting of Shanghai and phoned the rest of K&L2's development in. A shame really...worth a rental for the aesthetics, multiplayer, and, at times, quirky ideas but little else.

  • Bully: Scholarship Edition Coming Soon to Xbox Games on Demand

Unfortunately for me, I've been sick lately, meaning I've been crashed out on the couch the majority of the last 36 hours, balancing my time between napping and watching TV and playing games until I'm tired enough for my next nap.

So I woke up this morning, booted up the ol' Xbox, and saw that they're running another one of their contests, the Summer Send-Off giveaway.  Being mostly Scottish, my love of free things encouraged me to check out the contest, and see what their list of qualifications are.  Much to my surprise, one of them was downloading Bully: Scholarship Edition from Games on Demand.  Surprising, because Bully's yet to be announced for GoD

Barring a typo on the part of whoever put the contest info together, it looks like now will be an ample time to pick up Bully, in case you missed out on it the first couple times around.  Contest registration ends September 6th, and since there's only a week between there and now, it's safe to assume August 31st will be the most likely release date.

  • How Mass Effect Made Me a Racist

I consider myself a pretty “diversity-cool” sort of person.  I grew up in the heart of Southern Oregon, a Conservative isthmus branching between the Liberal seas of Eugene and Ashland, raised by a hunting, fishing, beer-swilling, tobacco-chewing, working-with-his-hands father and an artistic, Goddess-worshiping, hummus-eating, wannabe-hippie, Earth-child of a mother.  Suffice to say, I walked both sides of the geo-political veil, which was unusual among my friends growing up.

Seriously, I got asked at a bonfire party once what it was like talking to a gay person.  I knew people who, at the time, just couldn’t wrap their head around that.

Anyway, flash forward to present day.  I live in a more culturally diverse area, employed in a company that’s mostly minorities.  My night career with local theaters has exposed me to every sexual orientation under the sun (and some that only come out at night).  And I’m totally at home in these societies.

Which is why I find it so upsetting that Mass Effect has turned me into a racist.

Now, not the ethnic hate that we identify as racism in everyday society, but more akin to the racism as described in another great sci-fi franchise, Shadowrun, when they stated eloquently “Who cares about skin color when that thing over there has hands the size of your head?”

The object of my hatred:  Batarians.  I hate them, I really do.  I tend to play Paragon, but I lean on that Right Trigger the whole time I’m talking to one of those four-eyed bastards, in the hopes that Shepherd will just haul off and split their rotten skull open.

How did it get to this?  How did Bioware manage to raise such ire in me, especially in a fictional group of beings?  I decided my hatred needed some introspection.

    THEY STARTED IT

Our first run-in with the Batarians was during the DLC add-on in ME1, “Bring Down the Sky”, where a group of Batarian terrorists hi-jack a mining operation on an asteroid orbiting a human colony and jury rig it to crash the rock into the nearby planet, potentially killing millions of humans in the process.  To really drive home the atrociousness of the act, one of the mining company employees has to tell you about his grandchildren down on the surface, creating an emotional bond between you and the people who’s lives are in peril.

Maybe it’s just parental weakness, but the idea of someone killing a ton of innocent children because they have a hang-up about being beaten to prime lush colony space doesn’t sit right with me.

And that’s the crux of why Batarians hate the Humans.  The Batarians decided that a branch of the galaxy was theirs and theirs alone to colonize, just because.  The Humans, power mad with newly discovered trans-light speed crafts and two millennia of European expansionism started snatching up any un-colonized planet like Manifest Destiny was just invented.  The Batarians complained to the Council that the Humans had no business occupying that space, and the Council told the spider-faces that if they liked what they saw, they should have put a ring on it, and to shut their pie-holes.  The Batarians, in a move out of the third-grade playground, decided they were going to leave the Council until the rest of the races decided to give the Humans their walking papers.  No one seemed to notice.

    THEY TRIED TO KILL ME

And not in a fire fight, because God knows over the course of two games, plenty of people have tried to take down Shepherd, with varying levels of success.  But some Batarian bottom feeder in the Afterlife club on Omega gets his kicks by poisoning Humans daring enough to show their face in the club.  Luckily, due to years of tough military training, along with probably a metric ton of Cerberus nano-machines, Shepherd is able to survive the toxin with little more than a rough headache.

Of course, in holy retribution, Shepherd (ideally) storms back into the club, saunters up to the bar, and makes the booze-peddler swallow his own deadly swill.  And rightfully so.  Because screw that guy.

    THEY PICK ON NERDS

During the course of trying to place the plague cure in the air supply of the Omega wards you run into a group of Batarians strong-arming Mordin Solus’s lab assistant.  In their twisted logic, since the plague doesn’t affect Humans, the Humans must be the one distributing the plague, and picking on the first Human with a pocket protector they see is, to their backwards logic, the best way to get back at a potential genocide attempt.

Considering the average gamer, a group of young toughs picking on a pencil pusher hits a little close to home, or, more specifically, hits close the upper hallway in between fifth and sixth period on my the way to Chemistry. How the event plays out can go a number of ways, but preferably with a maximum amount of blood shed of the insectoid type.  Depending on the scenario, the assistant, Daniel, may think that you’re a monster for killing them, but Mordin quickly corrects him for being a whiny sissy.

    THE FUTURE?

Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if by the time Mass Effect 3 comes around, the eight-noses are working for the Reapers.  Shepherd certainly put the fear of Humanity into the Reapers, judging by the end of ME2, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.  Plus, a deal with the devil that puts the Batarians at the head of the galactic food chain would be right up their conniving, double-crossing alleys.  Heck, it’d almost be worth letting the Reapers win, just to watch them stab the Batarians in the back during their celebration party.  Ohhhh…the come-uppance…

Microsoft modified its console offering to a 250 GB Xbox 360 Console that retails for $299, and the entry level 4GB Xbox 360 Console that is available for $199.

This harkens back to the bit wars of previous generations...  8 BIT NES, 16 Bit Genesis, etc....  The ironic thing is that storage will likely be a thing of the past with the next generation if all this 'cloud' talk is to be taken seriously...

The new PS3 160 GB Console is currently in stock and available at Amazon for $299.99, while the PlayStation Move 320 GB Console Bundle is available for pre-order at $399.99.

  • Sex and Rockstar; How the Publisher Successfully Portrays Sex in Games

Violence, mayhem, drugs, and a strong narrative focus are all things most gamers associate Rockstar Games as being good at. One thing purveyors of the medium seem to be missing though -- among the quick jabs towards the GTAs' "sophomoric humor" -- is how successful they are at bringing sex into the gaming fold.

As far back as Custer's Revenge on Atari, sex has been something developers have been looking at integrating into their games. Video games, after all, can be described as the real world exaggerated to the nth degree so it would be normal to want to incorporate another aspect of our lives into them.

Here's a few ways sex can be described: an expression of love between two people, the primal act of intercourse, or simply a fun way to pass the time.

Earlier in the year, Quantic Dream's high-profile game, Heavy Rain, went about showing the world two of the characters in their most vulnerable state. The game set the mood where their lives intersected at low periods in their lives and love-making helped them through it.
It was a moment that would have worked, had the constructs of how video games not gotten in the way. Graphically, Heavy Rain looked incredible but I'd hardly, like many gamers, be an advocate of robotic hand gestures and stilted animation being a strong image of two characters caring about each other.

Even a game like Viva Piñata have dabbled in sex by creating female and male genders for all the piñatas inhabiting your garden. These games deal with the primal urge of intercourse and as a needed function to procreate.

Being that it's supposed to be a kids game, though, the title portrays sex as two animals dancing around in a hut with heart bubbles popping up all over the place. A cute way to get the idea across as a "romance dance," for sure.

Of course, Heavy Rain's example was so mechanical and robotic that it pulled you out of the experience and the abstract nature of how Viva Piñata goes about it just glosses over the act itself.

Rockstar has inserted it the best because they've dealt with sex as an example of the more reckless, adventurous kind. One that is generally acceptable (and romanticized about) in movies such as the recent drama "The Kids Are All Right" -- and that's a film that involves great actors and mature themes. Easier to spot would be the sex featured in "American Pie" or countless of other teenage sex comedies.

Both Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and, most recently, Red Dead Redemption featured sex scenes that -- I believe -- has portrayed sex the most accurately in video games...even if for most people these are scenes usually associated with party people or couples of the more adventurous sort.

Both games express sex as is probably the most fantastical it can be from a typical male's perspective: men in between women's legs, riding them in public (in a bathroom for Ballad of Gay Tony and over a kitchen table in RDR).

It's not so much that Rockstar is successful in pushing wish fulfillment fantasies into what is normally known as a medium geared towards the young, male adolescent but that it fits with how the medium is currently made. They are believable scenes that don't pull you out of the experience and aren't afraid to mask them as "romance dances."

There's no need to create intimate, slow-burning scenes when the physicality and precise moments of such portrayals of sex is currently impossible in games. Rockstar went with sexually explicit thrusts and motions that fit their games and actually add to the atmosphere The Ballad of Gay Tony and Red Dead Redemption try to promote.

The real question lies in whether the tech will ever get to where intimate sexual interaction isn't fumbled by the uncanny valley. We're seeing a possible graphics stagnation -- even regression -- in the case of Nintendo's popular Wii console, after all. If that's how video games will be going forward than we may never see a sexual scene past the extreme (and sometimes comical) sex scenes prominent now.

  • BlockBuster By Mail Adds Video Games, Blu-ray for No Additional Charge!

     Blockbuster - We've Added Games!

    Oh...  Blockbuster...

With so many 'late fees' paid over the years it is really hard to feel sorry for ya.  After taking the country by storm in the 90's, the 00's haven't been so kind.

Earlier this week, Blockbuster has kicked their 'Blockbuster by Mail' into another gear by offering video games to the mix.  The kicker is that their is no additional charge for video games, or blu-ray movies (Netflix charges extra for blu-ray movies).  Keep your expectation for 'new releases' availability low with this as even Gamefly has trouble keeping up with the new 'queue' demand.

Plans start at just $8.99 a month.  In addition, they are offering a free 20 day trial, so it might be worth a go at this price...

So what do you think... will this latest promo get Blockbuster back on it's feet?

  • Blackberry-Mania

    Car Club

It's been a busy few days for R.I.M. and that should make Blackberry owners quite happy. In les than 48 hours Blackberry Desktop 6.0, a native podcast app and a Blackberry Messenger update have all been rolled out for crackberry fanatics to enjoy. The podcast app should be especcially welcomed as I am sure that we have all had our BBerry "time out" trying to download a podcast directly through the default browser.

This is all part of the slow burn build up to the release of OS 6.0 handsets. If the wait is killing you (like it is me) maybe you can enjoy these small trinkets of faith for now.

  • Blu-ray Movie Releases for the Week of Aug. 10, 2010

    Date Night [Blu-ray]

Blu-ray Movie Releases for the Week of Aug. 10, 2010

Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey drops this week on Blu-ray.  In addition we have some additional treats in the form of National Lampoon's Vacation, Death at a Funeral, In the Shadow of the Moon, plus a few more gems!

This week's recommended Blu-ray movie title is Date Night...

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are two of the most charming performers in entertainment today. Their goofy attractiveness makes them a perfect couple in Date Night: an unremarkable husband and wife from New Jersey, they get mistaken for crooks in Manhattan, sending them on a wild night replete with snooty wait staff, crooked cops, glitter-specked strippers, a shirtless superspy (Mark Wahlberg, as buff as ever), and a preposterous car chase. The movie makes no effort to be remotely plausible and the last third really goes off the rails, and it would probably be better served by less familiar faces in minor roles (bit parts are played by Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, Common, James Franco, Mila Kunis, William Fichtner, and Ray Liotta). It's disappointing that the dialogue doesn't crackle the way it does on 30 Rock or The Office. But Fey and Carell carry the movie along through sheer nerdy pluck. Rarely does a couple in a movie seem genuinely devoted to each other, not out of wild passion, but for all the things that a real marriage is built on: patience, shared humor, a willingness to deal with day-to-day annoyances, and simple affection. Fey and Carell seem like a couple you'd actually enjoy going out to dinner with. In today's world, that's more romantic than sunsets and bouquets of roses. --Bret Fetzer

  • Crusade of Destiny Now Available For Palm Pre (Sort Of)

    http://i.imgur.com/xRE5l.jpg

Crusade of Destiny is a traditional RPG that received critical love when it was released on the iPhone and Android platforms. It has now been released for the Palm Pre (if you are running the ever elusive Web OS 1.4.5). It has very good graphics, great controls and 10-15 hours of gameplay, which is more than enough for a mobile game, in my opinion. Now, if you aren't an RPG fan, don't think that you will become one just because you are looking for a game to play on your phone while you area at work. But, if you want a game to take on the go with you that can satiate your need to play Final Fantasy, then this game might do the trick.

    http://i.imgur.com/JRjE4.jpg

After months of screen shots, videos, conferences and speculation we finally have an indication that Windows Phone 7 is not just a figment of out imagination. Well, HTC has not surprised anyone by being the first out of the gate. HTC has just filed a mystery handset with the FCC which is labeled as a Windows Phone 7 device. There are no details to get all teary eyed over, but it is still a sign that Windows Phone 7 is close. Now all you have to decide is if it's worth ditching your iPhone/Android/Palm/Balckberry device this fall.

  • iPhone Civilization Revolution Free Today

As is per usual with GamerDeals, we let you know about great gaming deals as soon as we hear about them. And, what's a better deal than free? Not sure how long it will last but you will want to run (by which I mean: run!) to your nearest iOS device to download Civilization Revolution in the App Store.

I made sure to download the regularly-priced-at-$5 title with the quickness since I've been hearing it's quite good for some time. It's basically the DS version with a few minor nip, tucks, and tweaks here and there. The original price point is kind of scary, which is why it's the perfect time to "buy" it now!

Newegg has struck again with a pre-order deal at $44.99 (reg. $59.99).  Be quick though as they raised the price when the word spread of this offer...

Both Amazon and Walmart are offering $20 credits on Halo Reach pre-orders (including the limited and legendary editions).  The Halo Reach Legendary Edition includes the Noble Team statue expertly crafted by the artisans at McFarlane Toys. Individually molded and hand-painted.  The Halo: Reach Limited Edition includes: ONI data module box, Dr. Halsey’s Journal, Embroidered Spartan II patch, Dr. Halsey’s ONI Badge, and the Limited Edition Elite in-game armor.

    Fallout 3: New Vegas:

    Welcome to Vegas. New Vegas.
It’s the kind of town where you dig your own grave prior to being shot in the head and left for dead…and that’s before things really get ugly. It’s a town of dreamers and desperados being torn apart by warring factions vying for complete control of this desert oasis. It’s a place where the right kind of person with the right kind of weaponry can really make a name for themselves, and make more than an enemy or two along the way.

As you battle your way across the heat-blasted Mojave Wasteland, the colossal Hoover Dam, and the neon drenched Vegas Strip, you’ll be introduced to a colorful cast of characters, power-hungry factions, special weapons, mutated creatures and much more. Choose sides in the upcoming war or declare “winner takes all” and crown yourself the King of New Vegas in this follow-up to the 2008 videogame of the year, Fallout 3.

    Enjoy your stay.

  • Red Dead Redemption's First Paid DLC Lands Next Week

    Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar's first of four proposed for-pay DLC packs, Legends and Killers, will be releasing next week August 10 on Xbox 360 and PS3. Red Dead players got a taste of wild westin' DLC with free co-op missions in June and now they can pony up 800 MS points/$10 PSN for the next hit that includes:

    * 9 New Multiplayer map locations
    * 8 New Multiplayer characters (taken from Red Dead Revolver)
    * New projectile weapon: the Tomahawk, with corresponding Challenges for single player and multiplayer
    * New Achievements/Trophies

These new additions to the game sure seem a bit under-ambitious when compared to the awesome episodes we got with Grand Theft Auto IV, but we know they didn't sell as well as expected for Rockstar so this was one way to take DLC for their next game.

Eh, I'll still be in line for Legends and Killers, though. What about you guys? Is there enough content there to get you to pony up $10 for?

  • New Video Game Releases for the Week of August 2, 2010 (Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii / DS / PC / PSP)

Our recommended new release of the week will go to WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2010, simply because nothing else is available (good week to release THQ...).

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 for Wii is the best-selling fighting video game franchise and returns to the virtual ring this year with the most authentic, entertaining and compelling simulation of WWE programming to date. Featuring 2-4 player multiplayer support, unparalleled creation tools, a robust Superstar roster, key franchise improvements and a few surprises, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 delivers the empowering freedom to create, customize and share gameplay experiences.

Delivering a button-based, simulation-style experience for the first time on the platform, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 for Wii supports the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller and the Nintendo GameCube controller, allowing players to get to the heart of the WWE video game experience in a number of ways. • Halo Reach:The Battle Begins Trailer

Halo:Reach will be released next month to the miliions of Halo fanatics that cover the Earth, but that doesn't mean that Bungie can't start torturing us now with the first true peak at the Reach campaign. Dig in folks and try not to hurt yourselves, it's that good.

  • Critically Panned Alpha Protocol Sells Past Half a Million

You'd think a title so marginalized by the gaming press for its lack of polish would sell horribly. Not so for Sega's Alpha Protocol that has managed to transcend low review scores with a sell through of 700,000 copies since release, according to Siliconera.

It looks like there was a nice chunk of the gaming audience ready for an RPG/shooter hybrid that leaned closely to BioWare's decision-making titles. Unfortunately, Sega has publicly stated that they will not be working on a sequel to Alpha Protocol...unless, of course, the seemingly slow burn of the game proves the proposition of a successor fruitful. Time will tell, fellow gamers.
  • Angry Birds Launches Off iPhone, Goes to PS3 and Portables

In a move that will surely make HawtWired's own Patrick Wright happy, Angry Birds is jumping off Apple's App Store waters and launching on the DS, PSP, and PS3 some time in the near future.

Other than the announcement of it coming, there are no other details involving the title. It's likely if they go full retail with it the developer would add new levels, mechanics and multiplayer aspects to the original game. Don't set your expectations too high, though...the game may just be a quick port to the respective systems' downloadable shops.

Apparent from our recent chats on the GamerDeals Podcast, I'm sure Patrick would buy it three times over regardless of any updates or changes.
